The weather was perfect on Saturday October 18th in RailRoad Park for the first "Art in the Park" event. Over 15 Artists selling hand-made Art held shop at RailRoad Park and somewhere between 175-200 people visited, perused and purchased local Art. All proceeds from the Art Vendor's space rental went towards the completion of the Tehachapi Depot fund.
The event was created by Main Street Tehachapi and supported by Friends of Tehachapi Depot and the 'Back on Track' Committee. The event was organized at no cost, and publicity was printed for free by the Loop Newspaper and the invitations for local Artists was heavily supported by the Tehachapi Art Center, Gallery 'N Gifts and Crossroads Gallery, all of Tehachapi. Prime Signs donated vinyl lettings to make event signs, and engraved plaques for our commemorative, plated railroad spikes.
It was a very successful day of fun and artistic endeavors which raised over $840 dollars for the Depot. Terry Asher organized the Pumpkin sculpting contest in which there were two winners - one from the Adult's Carving Group, and one from the Kid's Carving Team. Vicky Hoffman, of Insight Photography, was busy with face painting and arm painting all day with the children who had a blast getting spiders and other art painted on them. Mayor Debby Hand and her husband Peter Cutler provided their popular musical talents throughout the afternoon, pausing only briefly as the trains cruised by in the background.
The event was a resounding success and fun for all! See you at the next Art in the Park!
