President’s Message - May, 2013

Tim Trujillo

With the start of our new fiscal year on April 1st the FOTD Board of Directors adopted annual goals to ensure the Depot continues to grow and to function effectively. We encourage all of you to contribute your individual talents and energies to help us achieve the Depot goals.

Here’s how you can help.

One of our goals is to increase our membership this year. As you know our annual Membership Renewal campaign is underway and we hope each of you by now has completed and sent in your re-newal. We also encourage you to suggest Depot membership to your friends and neighbors who can also enjoy the benefits of membership. Plenty of brochures and membership applications are avail-able at the Depot for you to share with potential new members. Please stop by and pick up of a sup-ply for your contacts.

We want to expand our already successful educational programs that are serving our community well. Our target this year is to implement at least 12 educational events, 6 of which are for children. You can assist in this area by helping get the word out to our schools and teachers that educational tours of the Depot are available for no charge and how nice it is for our kids (and adults) to learn about the railroad and its historical relationship to Tehachapi. Also, for you high achievers, you may wish to join our elite docents who conduct our educational programs and Depot tours.

We will host at least 3 fund raising events this year. Your participation in the Depot Train Faire/Fun Day, Oktoberfest or our Christmas with Santa events will provide much needed support in achieving financial health for the Depot. We have a lot of fun while doing these events.

Lastly, we target an increase of 10% in the number of Depot visitors this year. Please help us reach this goal by your continued visits and by encouraging your guests or friends to stop by and see the “Jewel of Tehachapi”.

We hope you’ll join us on the evening of June 11th at 6:00pm for our General Membership Meeting at the Depot. We’ll update you on the latest Depot activities and present an interesting railroad pro-gram. As always, we’ll enjoy some free refreshments and the company of fellow Depot lovers and rail fans.

See ya then,
Tim
